- Powderhorn wilderness area of
Colorado, 35 miles
South of Gunnison, Colorado
- Base camp 10,500 FT. above sea
level
- Horseback ride to camp is
approx. 3 hours
- As a wilderness area there are
NO 4X4's - transportation is by
horseback or foot
About the Hunting
- Hunting is done by horseback
and foot
- You could be above tree line
or in the timber
- Some camps are foot hunting
only
- 4 point bull restriction area
- All hunting camps are drop
camp style hunting
Camp Description
- Camps are all wall tents
- No modern facilities
- Cooking is done by propane
stoves or wood
- Firewood must be cut by hand
- Lighting is by propane or oil
lamps
What to Expect
- Breathtaking views
- Cold weather is likely due to
the altitude
- Elk (your hunting skills will
determine how many)
- Very few other hunters if any,
other than those in your party
- We will assist you in how to
hunt the area, but how well you do
will depend upon your
skills
